The Moorings
Care Quality Commission Inspection Rating : ‘Excellent’
The Moorings is registered as a home for elderly people with Dementia. It is situated in the small village of Earsham, Norfolk, approximately 1 mile from the market town of Bungay. Located in an idyllic setting next to the church on the north bank of the River Waveney. Set in 6 acres this regency house offers a wonderful country setting for the retired.

Facilities & Services
The home consists of 31 bedrooms accommodating up to 34 Residents. All but two of the bedrooms have en-suite facilities, many have views overlooking the Waveney marshes or wonderful gardens. All bedrooms are fully furnished, Residents are however encouraged to surround themselves with their own belongings so as to make the space as familiar and homely as possible. The Moorings has 3 large light and airy lounges as well as a conservatory and dining area.
A key attribute of The Moorings is its enclosed garden where Residents are able to access the garden and enjoy the countryside.
A care call alarm system is linked throughout the home identifying where assistance is required. Alarm mats may also be used for those requiring higher levels of care day or night.
All food is cooked on the premises using fresh produce from local suppliers, the menu is sympathetic to the choices of elderly people with dementia paying close attention to nutrition. The home uses the M.U.S.T. (Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool), to identify where a Resident may require additional nutrients in their food. A fresh fruit platter is offered daily in the afternoon. Drinks and light snacks are available and encouraged throughout the day including afternoon tea and cake to which any visitor is more than welcome. Drinks and snacks are also available at night for those that wish.
On arrival we will go through with you an individual and detailed plan of care which will be updated on a regular basis to suit your varying needs.
We also encourage Relatives to bring family photographs, favourite pictures and mementos, in particular may we request an old photograph of your Relative in their ‘early years’ or a picture of something they were proud of or loved like their first car / family pet or hobby. We will then place this in a frame on their ‘front door’ of their bedroom thus helping to identify their own room.
A vital part in looking after elderly people is to have a knowledge of their past lives, this helps to create a ‘connection’ between Resident and carer. At our homes we use a ‘Life Story Book’ which will be provided to the Relatives when first arriving. We strongly encourage you to complete this booklet which is then kept in the care plan and used as a reference for the care team in helping to gain an understanding of the people we care for.
We are lucky enough to be supported and backed up by the community services; community nurse and G.P. Arrangements can also be made for visiting eye clinics or trips to the dentist. A private chiropodist visits the home every 8 weeks which we would strongly recommend. A professional hairdresser visits weekly.
