Chevington Lodge is registered as a home for elderly people with Dementia and is situated in the market town of Bungay, Suffolk. Located in an idyllic setting on the south bank of the river Waveney enjoying wide ranging views over open countryside. Access to Bungay is ideal, the location being within 250 metres of the town itself. The Victorian town house offers the perfect setting for the retired.
Having undergone a major refurbishment plan as well as a continuous replacement programme, Chevington offers modern facilities in period surroundings.
Facilities & Services
The home is surrounded by a beautiful garden with views overlooking the Waveney Marshes. The home has also developed a secure sensory garden which enables Residents to freely enjoy the pleasures and senses of the outside.
A key attribute of Chevington is the space it provides for its Residents. Inside the home is divided up into 4 communial areas where Residents are assessed according to their individual social & physical care needs. This enables Chevington to comfortably care for people with a whole range of frailties.
Accommodation is provided on the ground floor, first floor and second floor, (with lift access to all levels). Most rooms have en-suite facilities. Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with pictures and small pieces of furniture.
All food is cooked on the premises using fresh produce from local suppliers, the menu is sympathetic to the choices of elderly people with dementia. We will tailor the varied menu to meet any special dietary requirements you may have. Drinks and light snacks are available and encouraged throughout the day including afternoon tea and cake to which any visitor is more than welcome. Drinks and snacks are also available at night for those that wish.
On arrival we will go through with you an individual and detailed plan of care which will be updated on a regular basis to suit your Relatives varying needs.
We also encourage Relatives to bring family photographs, favourite pictures and mementos, in particular may we request an old photograph of your Relative in their ‘early years’ or a picture of something they were proud of or loved like their first car / family pet or hobby. We will then place this in a frame on their ‘front door’ of their bedroom thus helping to identify their own room.
A vital part in looking after elderly people with dementia is to have a knowledge of their past lives, this helps to create a ‘connection’ between Resident and carer. At our homes we use a ‘Life Story Book’ which will be provided to the Relatives when first arriving. We strongly encourage you to complete this booklet which is then kept in the care plan and used as a reference for the care team in helping to gain an understanding of the people we care for.
We are lucky enough to be supported and backed up by excellent G.P and District community nursing services. Arrangements can also be made for visiting eye clinics or trips to the dentist. A private chiropodist visits the home every 8 weeks which we would strongly recommend. A professional hairdresser visits weekly.
